Rev. Hoyt Lee Carr, age 91 of Copperhill, TN passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2025. He was born on September 25, 1933 in the Pierceville Community which is now McCaysville, GA to the late Rev. William Lee Carr and Myrtle Parris Carr. Rev. Carr retired after working forty-four years as a boilermaker at Tennessee Chemical Company. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local #0586. Rev. Carr was a member and Pastor Emeritus of Simonds Chapel Baptist Church. Rev. Carr served the Lord in the ministry for over sixty years in the Tri-State area. He served his country in the United States Army. Rev. Carr was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elizabeth Stephens Carr; son, Hoyt "Lynn" Carr; son-in-law, Robert Kirk and brother, Edward Carr.
Survivors are his wife of twenty-eight years, Diane Henry Carr of Copperhill, TN; daughter, Karen Carr Kirk of Copperhill, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Crystal Shurley Martin (Brian) of Flowery Branch, GA; grandchildren, Joshua Collins and Colyn Martin; daughter-in-law, Linda Prince Carr of Murphy, NC; other extended family and friends.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Funerals & Cremations of Copperhill Chapel with the Rev. Randy Kaylor, Rev. Denny Hawkins, and Rev. Joey Buchanan officiating. Music was by Dewayne Housley and Roy Tipton. Pallbearers were Gary Dillard, Shan Bruce, Jeff Patterson, Jeff Bruce, Brian Martin and Joshua Collins. Honorary Pallbearers were the retired Boilermakers. Interment followed at Crestlawn Cemetery with Rev. Todd Chester officiating. The family visited with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour of 3:00 p.m. For those desiring memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
