Homer Robert Hughes, age 90, of Blue Ridge, GA passed away Thursday, April 5, 2012 in the Fannin Regional Hospital in Blue Ridge, GA. Mr. Hughes was born in Fannin County, GA on April 27, 1921 to the late Emory Curtis Hughes and Mary Jane Beavers Hughes. He worked in the Smeltering Department of Tennessee Chemical Company. He was a member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church and was a United States Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellie Parris Hughes. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Geraldine Hughes of McCaysville, GA, William and Lois Hughes of Blue Ridge, Johnny and Angie Hughes of Blue Ridge, and Thomas and Melissa Hughes of Athens, TN; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Don Chancey of Blue Ridge, Linda and Hank Goddard of Blue Ridge, Betty and Jim Burnette of Buford, GA and Brenda and Stan Whaley of Blue Ridge; 20 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, April 8, 2012 at 3:00 p.m from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Harold Weeks, Rev. Max Curtis, and Rev. James Worley officiating. Music was by James and Margaret McGill, Donald and Wanda Stewart, Nancy Watkins, and Brian Pope. Grandsons served as pallbearers.
