Obituary

Mr. Hoke Thomas Jones, Jr., age 60, of McCaysville, GA, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN. He was born in Polk County, Tennessee, June 7, 1951, son of the late Hoke Thomas Jones, Sr. and Ophie Stewart Jones. He was a member of Blue Ridge First Baptist Church. Thomas loved music. He had the opportunity to play in Salsburg, Germany where Mozart lived. He was an accomplished organist and pianist. He was founder of "Merchant's Hope," an authentic Williamsburg village in Blue Ridge. He also built his home there, which was a replica of the Williamsburg, Virginia "Wythe House" and was given the key to the City of Williamsburg for their gratitude. Thomas was former owner of Blue Ridge Telephone Company (now TDS). His father, Hoke T. Jones, Sr. purchased the phone company in 1951, the year Thomas was born. Thomas' first love was music and his hobby was collecting antique switchboards of which he could make most work. Most all Thomas was a Christian. He is survived by two sisters, Jerrie (Jones) Merritt of Blue Ridge, GA and Sondra (Jones) Koenig of Palm Springs, CA, one niece and one nephew. A Memorial service was held at St. Lukes Episcopal Church at 2:00 PM Thursday, November 10, 2011, with Rev. Victor Morgan officiating. Donation in memory of Mr. Jones may be made to the Diabetes Association. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
