Obituary

Ms. Hettie Lee Green, age 89, of Youngstown, OH passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013 in the Meridian Arms Living Center in Austintown, OH. Ms. Green was born in Blue Ridge, GA on June 5, 1923 to the late Talton Green and Frances Conley Green. She was a member of O'Zion Baptist Church, attending whenever she came home to Blue Ridge. She lived in Miami, Fl for thirty years where she was head waitress at the Carillon Hotel on Miami Beach. During that time, she met many celebrities and dignitaries over the years. Hettie also spent considerable time in OH. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved sisters, Alma (Sis) and Euzella, dear brothers, Luke, Chester, James, Everett (Red) and Gene Green. She lost several nieces and nephews throughout her life whom she loved dearly, especially Ann Green and Molly Gerchak. She was every one's aunt, the keeper of family stories, and the last of the Greens to live on the family farm.She is survived by her brother, Robert Greene and sister-in-law, Lillian Green of Blue Ridge, GA. In addition, she leaves behind many nieces and nephews and their families; Roy Haren, Gary Haren, George Green, Mark Green, Richard Setzer, Gary Green, and Joe Green, Peggy Zubrinich, Maxine Haygood, Barbara Melnik, Jennifer Snyder, Judy DeMichael, Charlotte White, Audrey Mercer and Kathy French, with whom she made her home. Hettie also leaves numerous and much loved great, and great-great nieces and nephews and several cherished cousins and friends. Funeral services were held Sunday, May 5, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel the Rev. Michael Pope, Rev. Max Curtis and Min. Bill Johnston officiating. Music was by the O'Zion Baptist Church Choir and Patsy Beavers. Pallbearers were Martin Melnik, Daniel Melnik, Nathan Melnik, Doug Huff, Jim Pickett and Anthony Gerchak. Interment followed in the family plot at O'Zion Church Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com. Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge was in charge of arrangements. .
