Dr. Herbert M. Olnick, age 93, formerly of Macon, GA passed away on Sunday July 25, 2010. Dr. Olnick was educated at Columbia University in New York City. He graduated from the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons at the age of 21, and specialized in Radiology at Emory University Grady Hospital in Atlanta. He began practicing radiology in Macon in 1949 at 724 Hemlock Street, and at the Middle Georgia Hospital from which he retired as President in 1974. He and his first wife, Praise, were avid golfers and members of the Idle Hour Country Club. He leaves behind dear friends from his Macon years.Dr. Olnick is predeceased by his first wife, Praise, and his only son, Richard Michael Olnick of Columbus, GA. He is survived by his wife, Doris; one daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Terrance Lightbourne of Nassau, Bahamas; two daughters-in-law, Mary Irvin Paz of Waleska, GA., Helen Olnick of Columbus, GA; one brother and sister-in-law, Jay I. Olnek and Catherine Olnek of Greenwich, CT; six nieces and one nephew, five grandchildren, Cindy Olnick-Davies of Los Angeles, CA., Lisa Olnick of Boise, Idaho, Sara Callender, Rebecca Jenkins, and Rachel Lightbourne of Nassau, Bahamas; stepchildren, Denise and Aaron Tallent of Gordon, GA, Cherie and Donnie Dills and Amy and Zeke Watkins of Epworth, GA; four step-grandchildren, Wesley Farrer ,Keegan Watkins, Donnie and Amanda Tallent, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday July, 27 at 11:00 a.m. from the First Baptist Church of McCaysville with Rev. Matthew McDaniel and Rev. George Barnett officiating. Music was by Denise Tallent, Katie Gilbert, Harry Gilbert, Shea Pack, and Clarence Burlingame. Pallbearers were Terry Lightbourne, Tom Davies, Zeke Watkins, Aaron Tallent, Robert Guthrie, Donnie Dills, Gene Crawford, and Louie Willett. Honorary pallbearers were Members of the Friendship Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church of McCaysville, Dr. Stephen Treon, Dr. Mark Beaty, Dr. Bill Lee, Myles Watkins, Carl (Pete) Crawford, Jim Crawford, Joe Crawford, Wesley Farrer, Keegan Watkins, Coy Colwell, and Len Crawford.
