The Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill announces the death of Helen McFarland Gibbs, age 78, of Benton, TN, who passed away Tuesday, January 22, in the Sky Ridge Medical Center in Cleveland, TN. Helen was a native of the Polk County area and was a daughter of the late William & Mary Edith McFarland. She was a homemaker and a member of the Hot House Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by husband James Gibbs, brothers James, Earl and Howard McFarland, and sisters Marie Campbell, Bertha Stroud and Myrtle Harrison. sisters-in-law Gaynell McFarland and Lois McFarland; brother-in-law George Campbell, Emmitt Stroud, Amos Goss; several nieces & nephews.She is survived by sisters Magdaline McFarland Goss of Benton, TN, Grace McFarland Patterson & husband Clarence of Shelby, NC; brother-in-law, Wesley Harrison of McCaysville, GA; sister-in-law Essie McFarland of Dallas, GA. Many other relatives and friends.Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 25th at 3:00 p.m. from the Akins of Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Floyd Boggess and Rev. Frank Fisher officiating. Music will be by Edward Vest. Pallbearers include, Charles Goss, James Goss, Dennis Capehart, David Bowers, Ralph Quinn and Terry Stonecipher. Interment will follow in the Hot House Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Gibbs to the Lions Club or the American Cancer Society.
