Hazel Ellen Woody, age 96, of Mineral Bluff, GA passed away on May 27, 2024 in the Pruitt Health in Blue Ridge, GA. She was born in Dial, GA to the late Robert Dane and Pauline Stephens Kirby on August 29, 1927. Hazel was raised during the hard times of the depression in very rural Dial community. Her mother passed shortly after giving birth to one of her siblings, however the older children was instrumental in raising the younger children during the adversity of the depression. She was very proud of her Kirby heritage. Throughout the years, Hazel worked in bookkeeping and secretarial roles in several business throughout the community with her last employment being with the Fannin County CO-OP. She loved spending Friday nights with friends, playing cards, games and eating garlic salads. She enjoyed gardening and canning the fruits of her labor that could be prepared for family and friends. However, her true passion was spending time with her precious family, but especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Deward Everett Woody; daughter, Susan Angeline Woody; and siblings, Lee Kirby, Lorene Long, Roy Kirby, June Davenport, Howard Kirby, and Edwin Kirby.
Mrs. Woody is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Johnny Chastain; grandchildren, Johnny (Stacy) Chastain and Jennifer (Jim) Callihan; great-grandchildren, Cayla (Kevin) Teague, Kristin (Thomas) Kay, Kory Chastain, Cassie Callihan (Matt Wilson), Caroline (Matthew) Gray, and Kaitlyn (Grant) Fitts; great-great grandchildren, Gracelyn Gray, Hudson Teague, Emma Kay, Khloe Kay, Ellie Kay, Kamren Kay, Griffin Gray, John Jack Gray, and Indie Wilson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Denny Hawkins officiating. Music will be provided by Jim Callihan. A private interment will be held at a later date in the Chastain Memorial Park Cemetery.
Special gratitude is extended to Pruitt Health and Pruitt Hospice for their excellent and compassionate care they extended to Mrs. Woody.
