Mrs. Hazel Verlie Norton, age 90, of Blue Ridge passed away Friday, July 27, 2007 in the Heritage Health Care Center in Blue Ridge. Born in Fannin County, she was the daughter of the late William Burnette and Maggie Merrell Burnette. She was a member of Harvest Missionary Church. Mrs. Norton enjoyed babies, flowers, and was known for her love of family gatherings. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert E. Norton and a son Puggy Norton.
She was survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Dorothy Norton of Blue Ridge, Buddy Norton of Chattanooga, TN, Harrison and Bangole Norton of Blue Ridge and Kenny and Sharon Norton of Blue Ridge; daughters and sons-in-law, Bonita and Gary Mashburn of Blue Ridge, Wanda and Richard Maye of Villanow, GA, Hazel and Jerry Martin of Blue Ridge, Teresa Norton of Blue Ridge; honorary daughter, Dru Davenport of Blue Ridge; nineteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, July 29, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Leonard Hunter and Rev. Glenn Arnold officiating. Music was by Glenda Davis. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Anthony Wooten, Cody Wooten, Johnny Mortimer, Justin Green, Matt Crane and Josh Chastain. Interment followed in Sugar Creek Cemetery.
