The Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill announces the death of Harold Payne, age 59, of York, South Carolina, formerly of Turtletown, TN, who passed away Tuesday, December 30th . Harold was a native of the Copper Basin area and had worked as a miner in construction. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillie Pate Payne. He is survived by three sons, Billy Payne and Daniel Payne, both of York, SC, Jerry Lee Bell of Belmont, NC; one daughter, Morgan Payne of Ducktown, TN; father, Ed Payne of Ducktown, TN; two brothers, Hoyt Payne of Colorado and Charles Lee Fair of Ellijay, GA; three sisters, Louise Swanson and Sabina Adcock, both of Turtletown, TN and Ervalene Meish of Asheboro, NC; four grandchildren.Funeral services will be conducted Thursday January 1, at 11:00 AM from the Akins of Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Dilbeck officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Hill cemetery with full military honors conducted by the North Georgia Honor Guard.
