On September 22, 2024, George James Edwards left his earthly home to join his Heavenly family. He was born to the late Gladys Virginia McFarland and James Washington Edwards in Canton, Georgia on May 12, 1957.

Throughout the years, George worked at Imerys, as a farmer and roofer, sawmill, and was a jack-of-all trades. He was an outgoing person who never met a stranger. He was a member of Arbor Hill Baptist Church in Marble Hill.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Rose.

He is survived by his beloved wife of eighteen years, Sharon Kay Edwards of the home; brother-in-law, Phillip (Melissa) Barker; children, Georgia (Jeremy) Allen, Leanna (Alfonso) Gonzalez-Chino, Lavonna West, Julie (Hugh) Taylor, Jessica (Trent) Edwards, and Jacob Edwards; grandchildren, John, Liam, Lulu, Gabriel, Abram, Emily, Sam, James, Troy, and Gladys; sister, Marilyn (Wade) Forrester; brother-in-law, Larry Buchanan; sister-in-law, Lisa Amos; hunting buddy, Gary Wingo; and many loving nieces, nephews, and "adopted" children.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel with Chris Floyd, Tyler Elliott, and Aaron Adams officiating. Interment followed in the Ensley Family Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Shane Johnson, Jeremy Allen, Alfonso Gonzalez- Chino, Trent Edwards, Larry Buchanan, Randall Buchanan, Zach McAllister, Phillip Barker, and Jacob Edwards. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Johnson "Hillbilly" Foster, Gary Wingo, and Wade Forrester. The family visited with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 and on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. both evenings.
