Mr. Louie "Gene" Cox, age 80, of Blue Ridge passed away on September 17, 2011. Born in Fannin County, GA he was the son of the late Stewart and Hazel Welch Cox. He was of the Baptist Faith and a member of the Blue Ridge Masonic Lodge #67 F&AM. Mr. Cox was an accomplished Fiddle player and was inducted into the Georgia Blue Grass Hall of Fame in 1992. He was the proprietor of the Sugar Creek Music Park which operated for over twenty five years. Mr. Cox was also preceded in death by brothers, Jim, Bill, Cliff and Macky Cox. Survivors include his wife of fifty nine years, Vida Patton Cox of Blue Ridge, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Diana Cox of Blue Ridge, GA; grandchildren, Bridget and husband David Anderson, Rusty and wife Alicia Cox; great grandchildren, Jacob Anderson, Chetley Cox, Aubrie and Cambrie Cox; siblings and their spouses, Stewart "Jr." and Lilly Cox of Blue Ridge, GA Lloyd and Gerrie Hicks of Blue Ridge, GA and Bradley and Dorothy Davis of Mineral Bluff, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services were conducted Monday September 19, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harold Willis and Rev. Kenneth Mann officiating. Music was provided by his family and friends. Interment will follow in the Sugar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Jimmy Cox, Mike Cox, Lee Cox, Joey Cox, Rusty Cox, and Jacob Anderson. Serving as honorary pallbearers were David Cox, Denny Pritchett, David Camp, Carlton Davis, Cody Hicks and Bill Cochran. Condolences may sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
