Garland Isaac Nicholson, age 90, of Blue Ridge, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on August 2, 1934 in Blue Ridge, Georgia to the late Rev. Carl Lee Nicholson and Lela Mull Nicholson. Garland was devoted in the Baptist faith, and a life-long member and deacon of Damascus Baptist Church. He loved to fish and work on any kind of machinery. He was always working on something; often times restoring old cars and tractors. He worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator. In his spare time, he enjoyed attending his granddaughters ball games. Work and church were the foundation of his life.

Covering Garland's casket will be a hand-made quilt made by Joann O'Neal, wife of Rev. Melvin O'Neal, which he was gifted over thirty years ago in appreciation of Garland's craftsmanship of building their cabinets.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Glenn Nicholson, Thelma Nicholson Krider, and Glema Nicholson Humphrey.

Garland is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years as of their anniversary on May 12, 2025, Virginia Barnes Nicholson of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Keith Robert Nicholson (Ellen) of Blue Ridge, GA; granddaughter, Lillian Abigail "Abby" Nicholson (Tim Bellows) of Suwanee, GA; siblings, James Nicholson, Bobby Lee Nicholson, Geneva Nicholson Jolley (Ed), and Betty Nicholson Wise; brother-in-law, Eddie "E.A." Krider; many nieces and nephews, and dear friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. from Damascus Baptist Church with Rev. Stacey Nicholson officiating. Music was provided by Nancy Watkins, Joel Collis, and Rev. Billy Ray Queen. Interment followed in the Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Mark Chastain officiating. Serving as pallbearers were: Drew Anderson, Ricky Beach, George Ensley, David Grindstaff, David Lewis, and Nick Nicholson. The family visited with friends at the funeral home on Saturday, prior to the service from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in honor of Garland be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to a charity of your choice.
