Obituary

Fred Herbert Verner, age 84, of Turtletown, TN passed away Friday, July 23, 2010. He was born in Cherokee County, NC to the late Milton and Carrie Torrence Verner. Mr. Verner and his wife, Betty owned and operated Maw's & Paw's Grocery Store in Ducktown and also the Ducktown Florists. He was a member of the Farner Presbyterian Church and also attended the Kinser Church of God in Cleveland, TN. Mr. Verner was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Army and was a fifty year member of the Montgomery Masonic Lodge #426 F&AM in Murphy, NC. He was preceded in death by brothers, Cecil, Howard and Warren Verner and sister, Ruth Verner. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Betty Jones Verner of the home; son, Fredrick H. (Denise) Verner, Jr. of Cleveland, TN; daughters, Deanie(Roger) Thomasson of Turtletown, TN, Gayle (David) Duggan of Cleveland, TN and Angie (Scott) Barker of Copperhill, TN; brother, J.M. Verner of Liberty, NC; sisters, Mildred Collins of Ducktown, TN, Betty Lovern of Lafayette, GA and Florence (Jess) Loudermilk of Turtletown,TN; seven grandchildren, David (Christin) Morton, Derda Verner, Jeremy Barker, Jonathan Barker, Daniel Verner, Billy Thomasson and Missy Thomasson; several great-grandchildren also survive.Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. from the Akins of Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Guinn Green and Rev. Dennis Snow officiating. Music was by Rev. Guinn and Anita Green and the Barker Brothers. Great- grandchildren and Nephews served as pallbearers. Masonic rites were by the Montgomery Masonic Lodge #426 F&AM. Interment followed Sunday, July 25, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from the Farner Presbyterian Cemetery.
