Frank Gerald "Jerry" Blackmon, age 64 of Turtletown, TN passed away Thursday, June 4, 2009. Mr. Blackmon was born in Elberton, GA to the late Milton Edward and Myrtle Hewell Blackmon, Sr. He was a graduate of Georgia State University where he received a B.A. in Criminology. He later retired from the university where he worked in law enforcement at the campus. He was a member of the Northside Baptist Church in Elberton, GA and was a veteran in the U.S. Army. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Diana Mandeville Blackmon who died in 2003 and siblings, Bill Blackmon, Ed Blackmon, and Regina Jefferson.He is survived by his wife, Joyce McBrayer Blackmon of the home; daughters, Lara Keene of Lithonia, GA, Amy Blackmon of Conyers, GA, Michelle & husband, Butch Murray of Murphy, NC, Julie Verner and friend, Jason (Murph) Murphy of McCaysville, GA; brother Danny and wife, Becky Blackmon of Dearing, GA; sisters, Shirley & husband, Joel Anderson of Elberton, GA, Martha Sue and husband, Marshall King of Carlton, GA, Elaine and husband, Dewey McNair of Elberton, GA; eight grandchildren. A large number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 6, at 4:00 p.m. from the Akins of Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Bernie Dickson officiating. The body was cremated. Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Blackmon may be made to the Emory University Clinic, 809 Gatewood Road, Atlanta, GA 30322 or to a charity of choice.
