Obituary

Mrs. Evelyn Sue Silas, age 73, of McCaysville, GA passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2008 in Bolivar, Missouri. Born in Dodge County, GA, she was the daughter of the late James Monroe Bacon and Esther Estes Bacon. Mrs. Silas was a school teacher at West Fannin for many years; she retired 1999. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of McCaysville/Copperhill. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Henry Clayton Silas. She is survived by a son, Clay Silas of Berlin, MD; daughters and sons-in-law, Renee and Jeff Waters of Bolivar, MO and Robyn and Larry Walker of Ellijay, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Dallas Shamblin of Mineral Bluff; four grandchildren, Kelsey Waters, Mitchell Waters, Mary Elizabeth Walker, and Hannah Walker; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, August 16, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. from the First Baptist Church of McCaysville/Copperhill with Rev. Cecil Clegg, Rev. Harry Gilbert, and Rev. Garry Barber officiating. Music was by Rev. Harry Gilbert and Katie Gilbert. Pianist was Melba Akins and organist was Clarence Burlingame. Pallbearers were Bob Welch, Robert Arp, Bob Kilpatrick, David Bryson, Ed Millsaps, Nick Wimberly, Frank Beavers, and Bob Newman. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Crouch, Bill Rymer, James George, Grady Dotson, Jerry Hampton, Dr. William R. Lee, Tommy Quintrell, and Morris Queen. Interment followed in Crestlawn Cemetery.
