Obituary

Mrs. Evelyn Arp, age 70 of Copperhill, TN passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012 at Copper Basin Medical Center in Copperhill, TN. Evelyn was born on March 19, 1942 in Spring City, TN and was the only child to the late Parks W. and Gladys Postelle Maughan. When she was an infant, Evelyn and her mother moved to Ducktown to await the end of World War II and were reunited with their husband and father, Parks, who had been held as a prisoner of war in a Nazi POW camp. Evelyn attended Ducktown Elementary school and Copper Basin High School. She worked at the Levi Strauss Company in Blue Ridge for twenty-seven years. Evelyn was a member of Kingtown Baptist Church and thoroughly enjoyed singing in her church choir. She was a loyal Tennessee Volunteer fan. Evelyn enjoyed traveling and visits to the mountains.She is survived by her husband of fifty-four years, Cecil (Bugs) Arp of Copperhill, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Dana Arp of Pearland, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Freda and Barry Abbott of Ducktown, TN; granddaughter, Taylor Renee Arp of Pearland, TX.A memorial service was conducted on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. from the Akins of Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Gary Parris officiating. Music was by Ryan Norton, Holly Norton, Sandy Lohr and Connie Grindstaff. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Copper Basin Hospital for emergency room upgrades, Attention: ER, P.O. Box 990, Copperhill, TN 37317 or to the Kingtown Baptist Church, P.O. Box 400, McCaysville, GA 30555. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com. Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill was in charge of the arrangements. .
