Esther Newton

Esther Newton, age 91, of Blue Ridge, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 18, 2026. She was born in Blue Ridge on August 3, 1935, to the late George Shuler and Margret Parm Shuler. She attended New Life Fellowship Church. She enjoyed gardening, visiting with friends and family. She loved to fish and go shopping. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Newton; daughter, Karen Cantrell; son, Travis Cantrell; siblings, Ralston Shuler, Lonnie Shuler, Lester Shuler, Bethel Newton, Mamie Panter, Beddie Knight.

Esther is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Ron Emslie; grandchildren, Michelle Harper, Regina McKinnish, Paul Cantrell, Scarlett Smith, and Justin Emslie; great-grandchildren, Trey Beckett, Jessie Logan, Perrin Farren, Camille Cantrell, Joseph Smith, Jason Smith, Alexander Emslie, and Allison Emslie; and five great-great-grandchldren; and brother-in-law Herbert Newton.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026 at 1:00 PM from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel with Pastor Joe Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow in the Patterson Cemetery. The family will visit with friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
