ERNEST WILLIAM ASCHERMAN formerly of Ossining, New York, died on September 12, 2008 in Blue Ridge, Georgia. He is mourned by his beloved wife Shirley, two sons, three step children and six grandchildren.A 1937 graduate of Ossining High School, he graduated from Syracuse University and Columbia University with degrees in Education before spending 37 years in the Ossining New York School Systems, as a coach, teacher and administrator. Aschermann served as Assistant football coach under the legendary Jim Dilley, and head baseball coach at Ossining. He is still the only coach to ever have an undefeated baseball team at Ossining. He retired from the Ossining School systems as Principal of the Anne M. Dorner Middle School in 1975.His parents, Ernest and Hermina, from Germany and Austria, owned Ascherman's Bakery in Ossining for many years before moving to Florida. His wife Vivian passed away in 1975. His passing is mourned by his children, son Ernest Jr. and his wife Evelyn, son Kurt, six grandchildren and three step children.A memorial service will be held in Ossining New York on October 25th, followed by internment at the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in the family plot. Details will be announced. The family has asked that contributions be made to the Ernest Ascherman Scholarship Fund (% Ernest Ascherman Jr., PO Box 1299 Matthews, NC 28106) in lieu of flowers.
