Mr. Elvin McKinley (Sam) Ledford, age 87, of Blue Ridge, GA passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2010 in the LifeCare Center of Ducktown, TN. Mr. Ledford was born in Cherokee County, NC on September 24, 1922 to the late Theodore B. Ledford and Carrie Cook Ledford. Mr. Ledford was a repairman for the Tennessee Chemical Company. He was a charter member and trustee of New Testament Baptist Church. He was a United States Army veteran serving in World War II. He was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Dana and James Clyde Roberson; and great grandson Ryan Roberson. He is survived by his wife, Helen B. Ledford of Blue Ridge, GA; son, Sammy Ledford of Mineral Bluff, GA; brothers, Gerald Ledford of Murphy, NC, and Ray Ledford of Marietta, GA; sisters, Helen Cochran of Postelle, TN; 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Friday, February 19, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from New Testament Baptist Church with Associate Pastor Bob Becker officiating. Music was provided by Gina Ledford. Pallbearers were Freddie Rice, Junior White, Brian Pierce, Ed Huber, Barron Adams, Sammy Ledford, Jr., and David Roberson. Honorary pallbearers were Joshua Ledford, Adam Jones, Cody Roberson, and Timothy Ledford. Interment followed in Chastain Memorial Park. Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge was in charge of arrangements. .
