Obituary

Edward P. Steers, age 86, of Blue Ridge, GA. passed away on May 28, 2024. Ed was a devoted and loving member of his family. Born in New York City, NY on November 18, 1937 to the late Joseph A. Steers and Sarah Lascelles. Edward had an older step brother, James Gerald Lascelles who passed away when Edward was a young child.

Ed attended Barnard School for Boys in NYC, Jonathan Dayton Regional High School in Springfield N.J. and received a BA in Liberal Arts and a Masters in Business Administration, both from Seton Hall University.

Edward served in the US Army for 4 years both in the states and in Germany. He married his wife Ann in 1962 and soon started a family with the birth of their son, James Steers.

In 1968 Ed's daughters Elizabeth and Katharine were born and they settled in Matawan, NJ. Ed and Ann spent the next 20 years raising their family.

Ed had a long career in in Pensions working for two major life insurance companies, Prudential and Metropolitan Life.

In 1993 Ed and Ann moved down to Alpharetta Ga. and then later to Blue Ridge Ga. where Ed retired at the age of 70.

Ed was an avid Yankees and Giants fan. He loved the outdoors, enjoying rafting, canoeing, hiking, and exploring new places. He was also a talented woodworker, creating beautiful pieces he was very proud of. Ed loved his faithful dogs Misty, Hannah, and Scout. He volunteered at Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Blue Ridge, Ga. and spent much time driving veterans to their appointments at VA hospitals all over Georgia.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James and Susan Steers of Social Circle, GA; his daughter and son-in-law, Katharine and Thomas Cirrinicione of New York, NY; his daughter Elizabeth Steers of Las Vegas, NV; his grandchildren, Deanna Steers, Gabrielle Steers, Jessica Steers and Matthew Cirrinicione; his three sister- in- law's, Alice Sweeney, Jane Quill and Joan Quill of Fairfax, VA; and his cousin, Barbara Carter of Peachtree Corners, Ga.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel with Father Brendon Doyle officiating. Military honors were rendered by the North Georgia Honor Guard. At a later date, Mr. Steers and his loving wife, Ann, will be laid to rest in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Edward's memory at St. Jude Children's Hospital or Habitat for Humanity.
