Edward David Poole, age 87, of Murphy, NC, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 in Gainesville, GA. He was born on April 20, 1935, in Elgin, IL, to the late Loyd David Poole and Bernice Bremer (Olaf Nokken) Poole. He married his high school sweetheart, Constance, on July 27, 1957. Edward served in the United States Army May 7, 1957 to January 16, 1963. He and his wife resided overseas in Germany returning to the States in 1959. After the military, he worked as a Field Service Engineer for the Fisher Body division of General Motors. He resided in Charlotte NC. where he started his family. He and his wife had a daughter, Pamela and son, Scott. The family moved to Waukesha, Wisconsin where Edward became a Master Mason and earn the 32th degree of the Scottish Rite. After 8 years in Wisconsin, the family moved to Florida, retiring in Jacksonville, Florida in 1990 after 30 years of service to General Motors. The love of the mountains drew him and his wife to retire to Murphy, NC in 1998. He settled into the mountain life and became a valued member to community. He transferred to the local Masonic Lodge and continued his service. He was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Morganton, GA.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sibling, David Loyd Poole and their beloved Shih Tzu, Sparkle.
Edward is survived by his wife, Constance "Connie" Vanderford Poole; daughter, Pamela Jean Poole; son, Scott Edward Poole (Karyn); grandsons, Connor Scott Poole and Colin Edward Poole; and sister, Sue Gladys (Ralph) Ollman.
A memorial service honoring Edward's life was held on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. from the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 823 Forge Mill Road, Morganton, GA 30560. Condolences may be left for the family online at www.akinscobb.com.
