Obituary

Edward Harrison Payne, age 89, of Turtletown, TN, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2009 in the Copper Basin Medical Center. He was born in Polk County, TN on January 21, 1920 to the late George Harrison and Imogene Long Payne. Mr. Payne served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He retired as a supervisor with Tunnel and Mining Construction. Mr. Payne was of the Baptist Faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Leticia Pate Payne, two sons, Lloyd and Harold Payne; two daughters, Iralene Hughes and June Hill. He is survived by sons, Charles Lee Fair of Ellijay, GA and Hoyt Edward Payne of Hotchkise, CO; daughters, Bonnie Meish of Asheboro, NC, Louise Swanson of Ducktown, TN and Sabina Adcock of Turtletown, TN; brother, Robert Payne of Ducktown, TN; sister Lois Dilbeck of Turtletown, TN; thirty-five grandchildren; a large number of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins of Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Eddie Trentham officiating. Pallbearers were Keith Lester, David Adcock, Jason Cruse, Mick Harris, Anthony Noland and Billy Payne. Honorary Pallbearers were Daniel Payne, Richard Payne, Guy Payne and Danny Dilbeck. Interment followed in the Zion Hill Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com. Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill was in charge of the arrangements.
