Edward Ray Massengale, age 86, passed to the new life on March 4th at Northside Cherokee hospital in Canton, Georgia.
Ed, a member of the Williamstown Methodist Church, was a devoted Christian, husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and church member. He was born in Copperhill, TN to Wayne John and Ruth Quinn Massengale and was the youngest of 5 siblings.
He is preceded in death by brothers Sonny and Johnny, sister Barbra M. McGill, and his parents. He is survived by his sister Mary Ruth Chancey.
Survivors include his sweetheart of 70 years and wife of 64 years, Jerrie Sue, daughters Martha Lea & Maria Lenette, granddaughter Lita Marie, grandson Lanny Michael, son-in-law Craig Parker, grandson-in-law-to-be Jacob Degenhard, many nephews, nieces, cousins, and a host of friends.
Ed attended Copper Basin High School and was a proud graduate of the University of Tennessee Knoxville. He went on to spend 30 years teaching Science and coaching football, baseball, and basketball teams in Junior High Schools primarily in Fannin County.
Ed was a man of strong faith and always stood for what is right.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. from the Akins-Cobb Copperhill Chapel Rev. Larry Russell, Rev. Dr. Joel Kailing, and Rev. Dr. Stanley Ponz officiating. Music will be provided by Jerrie Sue Massengale. Interment will follow in the Crestlawn Cemetery in Copperhill, TN with Lanny Massengale, Jacob Degenhard, Craig Parker, Winston Massengale, Jr, George Dillard, and Harold Masengil serving as pallbearers. The family will visit with friends at the Akins-Cobb Funerals & Cremations of Copperhill, TN on Sunday evening, March 8, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
