Mr. Edd Amos Patterson, age 87, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at his farmhouse on Dills Road in the Barnes Chapel Community. Born on March 14, 1923 in Copperhill, TN, he was the son of the late George Lester and Amanda Lou Weeks Patterson. Edd was a faithful member of the Barnes Chapel Baptist Church for seventy four years. One of his proudest moments was to donate the new bell to Barnes Chapel Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, hunting, fishing and gardening. He retired from the Cities Service Company as a Repair Foreman at the Acid Plant. Serving During WWII he was a gunner in the Pacific for the United States Navy. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of fifty one years, Louise Colwell Patterson. Proverbs 22:1 - "A good name is rather to be chosen, and loving favor rather than silver or gold."Survivors include his four children and their spouses; Raland and Ann Patterson, Patsy and Spence Farley, Paulette and Johnny McKinney, Charles (Chuck) and Nancy Patterson; one sister, Jewel Sluder; ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.Funeral services were conducted Sunday March 6, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Hollingshead officiating. Music was provided by Robyn McKinney and the Farmer Family. Serving as pallbearers were Coy Colwell, Ricky Patterson, Tim Mercier, Randal Colwell, James McGill and Steve Huffman. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Danny McFarland, James Sluder, Frank Reeves, Larry Dyer and Bob Lewis. Graveside services were at the Copper Ridge Memory Gardens with Rev. Harold Weeks and Steve Green officiating with a ringing of the bells of Barnes Chapel Church. Full military Honors were provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Barnes Chapel Cemetery Fund in c/o Steve Green at 70 Skyview Ridge Blue Ridge, GA 30513.
