Mr. Doug Heaton, better known as "Pops", age 72, of Mineral Bluff, Georgia passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023 at his home. He was born on January 15, 1951 in Copperhill, Tennessee to the late Douglas Jackson Heaton Sr. and Opal Bennett Heaton. Doug was a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served as a jet engine mechanic. He also had a career as an autobody technician, working for OK Car Corral. He was a man of great faith, serving as a member and deacon of Salem #2 Baptist Church. He loved gospel music, working on cars, cooking, spending time with his grandchildren, and in his younger years, fishing and hunting, but most of all he loved the Lord. He is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Beverly Gilliam Heaton; sister-in-law, Patty Buchanan Heaton; and brother-in-law, Carlton Hicks.

He is survived by his children, Chris Heaton (Blythe Dawson) of Mineral Bluff, GA and Beth Heaton Pless (Nathan) of Mineral Bluff, GA; grandchildren, Hayden Heaton, Leah Heaton, and Dexter Dawson; siblings, Farion Heaton of Mineral Bluff, GA, Karen Hicks of Blue Ridge, GA, John and Cindy Heaton of Blue Ridge, GA, Jim and Renee Heaton of Copperhill, TN; fur baby, Maleigh; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Salem #2 Baptist Church with Rev. Brett Curtis and Rev. Randy Hooper officiating. Music will be provided by Joseph Habedank and Lisa Fields. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Air Force. Interment will follow in the Salem #2 Baptist Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Chris Heaton, Nathan Pless, Hayden Heaton, Jared Heaton, Nathan Heaton, and Jonathan Heaton. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Salem #2 Baptist Church, Corey Callihan, Robert "Yogi" Jones, Steve Bennett, Greg Brooks, Bill Gilliam, Dr. Kenny Atkins, and Josh Curtis. The family will visit with friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour of 3:00 p.m.
