Donald Stephen Jones, 65, of Ellijay, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2020. Steve was born to Walter Donald Jones and Jenann Jolly Jones on April 13, 1955. Steve graduated from Westover High School in 1973 and worked at Georgia Power Company from 1975 until he retired in 2017. He began his career at Plant Mitchell in Albany and moved to Woodstock, Georgia in 1979 where he resided until moving to McDonough in 1995. Several years later he built a cabin on the river in Ellijay. Steve was a dedicated Georgia Fan and loved his golden retriever, Joy. He had a gift for cooking and once taught his coworkers how to make homemade biscuits as part of a training course. He enjoyed attending Nascar events, camping, fishing, and gardening. Steve is survived by his parents and one son, Brandon Rider Jones (Kim Huff Jones); four grandchildren, Olivia Marie Jones, Gage Crew, Luke Jones, and Kayla Jones; his sister Sandra Boyd, nephew Chad Cox, and niece Casey Evans (Chris). He was preceded in death by his daughter, Shelley Jones. A memorial service was conducted on Friday, July 17, 2020 at 10:00 AM from the Floral Memory Garden in Albany, GA.
