DONALD (DUCK) RAY EDWINGAMERICAN GAG CARTOONISTMr. Donald (Duck) Ray Edwing, age 82, of Blue Ridge, GA passed away Monday, December 26, 2016. He was born January 20, 1934 in Jersey City, New Jersey, the son of Fredrick Edwing and Helen Conway. He was preceded in death by his wife Claire Harrington who was deceased in 20089 and his fiance Julie Brock who was deceased in 2013. Mr. Edwing served in the US Navy on board the aircraft carrier Intrepid as a photographer and also served in the Korean War. Mr. Edwing was a cartoonist and writer for MAD Magazine for over 30 years. He created and wrote the comic strip Spy vs. Spy and Tales from the Duckside. He worked on cartoons for Frank and Ernest and Horarce and Buggy. in 2003, Mr. Edwing designed slot machines for International Game Technology, the world's largest slot machine developer. He was formerly of St. Pertersburg, FL and Ormond Beach, FL before moving to Blue Ridge in 2010. He was a member of the American Legion and the National Cartoonist Society.Don was very generous with his talent and drew several cartoons for people and businesses around Blue Ridge. The residents of Blue Ridge will always remember Don (Duck) Edwing by his friendly and outgoing nature, his kindness and generosity and his never ending joke telling and story telling. It was impossible to be around Don and not laugh hysterically. He brought much needed joy and laughter to this world and lessoned peoples worries and stress if for just a little while. With Don's passing the laughter is a little less in Blue Ridge, GA and the world and he will not ever be forgotten.Mr. Edwing is survived by son, Fredrick Edwing III, son, Frank Edwing, California and daughter Donna Fink, Virginia; sisters, Helen Mielo and Marilyn Ohgemach, both of Virginia, brother, Fredrick Edwing, deceased; grandchildren, Jennifer Edwing, Sean Edwing. Christal Edwing, Jamie Edwing., and Frank Edwing; stepchildren, John Hobson. Rachel Pluff, and Hanna Foutz. all of Indiana, Brad Hobson, deceased and Greg Hobson. deceased.A memorial service will be held in New Jersey and his ashes will be spread in the Fort Lee Historical Park which overlooks the George Washington Bridge in New Jersey.
