Mr. Don Lewis Rogers, age 89, of Blue Ridge, GA, passed away on August 24, 2019 in the Pruitt Health Care in Blue Ridge, GA. Born in Fannin County, GA, he was the son of the late Ira Burl and Elizabeth Elonore Pope Rogers. Don served his country proudly during the Korea War in the United States Army. "Papaw Rogers," as he was affectionately named by his grandkids, truly loved staying busy, and had a strong work ethic. When we wasnt manning the furniture store, he could be found outside, gardening or landscaping. He was crazy about his children, and his grandchildren & great-grandchildren and he was no ordinary grandpa. Rather, he taught them all how to play a good game of poker, and he was never short on tall tales and adventures of his childhood and his travels over the years. He grew up during some tough times, but managed to have a soft spot for sales, and built Town and Country Furniture Store which became a booming furniture business that served much of the local community, and is still in operation today. He may best be remembered for his "hog wild" furniture sales and his shiny white hairwhich he joked kind of resembled country music legend, Kenny Rogers. Hed even sport some fancy "outfits," as he called them, every now and then. Overall, it seems all who knew him, remember him as a fun loving man who enjoyed having a good time & being with family and friends. Don is also preceded in death by his siblings, Vedith Richards, Leo Nicholson, H.V. Rogers, Hoyt Rogers, Vaughn Rogers and Raymond Rogers.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Rogers of Blue Ridge, GA; daughters and one son-in-law, Linda and James Fitts, Glenda Rogers, Donna Whitener and Lanie Stewart all of Blue Ridge, GA; sons, Christopher Rogers of Epworth, GA and Chris Canote and Jason Canote both of MO; grandchildren, Julie Queen, Nathan Fitts, Brandon Whitener, Eric Whitener and Kristan Weaver; great grandchildren, Courtney Davies, Colin Queen, Grant Fitts, Logan Fitts, Carley Queen, Lilly Whitener and Claire Whitener; and many other relatives and friends also survive.
