Don Henry "Troop" Mason, age 80 of Turtletown, TN passed away Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Parkridge Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN. Mr. Mason was born in Polk County, TN on January 23,1932 to the late James Arthur Mason and Pearl Adeline Goode Mason. He retired with twenty years service in the United States Air Force with rank of T-Sgt. and served tours of duty in Korea and Vietnam. Mr. Mason also retired after fifteen years from Tennessee Chemical Company. He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and Gideons International. Mr. Mason was a former Commander of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter Twenty-Five in Cleveland,TN. He was preceded in death by a brother, James (Bill) Mason; a sister, Helen Mason Kimsey and a stepmom, Vernie Payne Mason.He is survived by his wife, Ruth E. Mason of Turtletown, TN; daughters, Donna Mason of Cleveland, TN and Debra Mizell and husband, Gerald Mizell of Cleveland, TN; brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Dorothy Mason of Cleveland, TN; grandchildren, Jonathan and wife, Kim Mizell, Jerry Mizell, Jennifer and husband, Nick Chesnut, Christopher Mizell and Megan Crouch; great-grandchildren, Piper, Corey and Dylan Chesnut, Morgan, Mikayla, Macie and Coleston Mizell; nieces and nephews.Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. from the Akins of Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Joe Dan Wilkins officiating. Music was by the Rose Brothers, Janice Reid and Turtletown Quartet. Pallbearers were Kenneth Patterson, Tommy Grindstaff, Ronnie Hensley, Tommy Taylor, Vernon Morrow and Hershel Raper. Honorary Pallbearers were Glenn Callihan and Charles Nicholson. Interment followed at Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors by the Disabled American Veterans Chapter Twenty-Five, Cleveland, TN In lieu of flowers the family request contributions be made to Gideons International, Polk County Gideon Camp, P.O.
