Obituary

Dennis "Denny" A. Cook, age 52 of Morganton passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026. He was born in Copperhill on June 30, 1974. Denny was known for his infectious smile and optimistic spirit, embracing life with an unwavering positivity that inspired everyone who crossed his path. He had a special gift for making others feel welcomed, never meeting a stranger. Even during his illness, his hopeful outlook remained an integral part of who he was. Denny worked as a dedicated employee for the City of Blue for nearly 20 years. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Coolidge Queen, Betty Brackett-Queen, Emmett Cook, Lillie Cook, Bonnie Verner and Paul Verner.

He is survived by his wife, Amanda Messer Cook; parents, Dennis and Annette Verner Cook; mother, Margaret Anderson; children, Kelsi Cook-Bjork (Zach), Brandon Cook, Chandler Messer (Kennedy); grandchildren, Addilyn Bjork, Navy Bjork, Brody Bjork, and adopted in love, Jaxon Messer; brothers, Jason Cook (Lisa), Joey Cook, Eric Fears, Robert Cody, Tom Messer, Roy Payne; sisters, Christina Rush (Matt), Jessica Garrett (Lee), and Heather Messer; maternal grandmother, Dottie Queen; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Funerals & Cremations of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Denny Hawkins, Rev. Shawn Mashburn, and Rev. Jeremy Mashburn officiating. Music will be by Rev. Jeremy Mashburn and Christina Rush. Interment will follow in the Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jim Robinson, Josh Jones, Justin Newton, James Messer, Matt Rush and Shawn Messer. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jack Taylor, Ed Hawkins, Steve Mull, Patric Shoemake, Dr. William Whaley, Barbie Gerald and The Entire City of Blue Ridge Family. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, August 18, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

The Cook family wishes to extend special gratitute for the City of Blue Ridge, Georgia Cancer and North Georgia OGBYN for the care, love and grace they extended during Denny's illness.
