It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dean Dale Worthingstun, 68, on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
He was born in Conway, SC, November 28, 1957, to the late LT and Yvonne (Tuttle) Worthingstun. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Barbara Adams.
Dean is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Rhonda; sister, Dawn (John) Apking; brother, David, sister-in-law, Judy (Bill) Breedlove; nieces, Jennifer (Dominik) Worthingstun, Ariana Brasfield, and Ella Worthingstun; nephews, Ryan Dinwiddie, Patrick (Blake) Capehart, Matthew (Katie) Capehart, Justin Capehart, Corbin Guelda, Eli Kirchner, and Oskar Worthingstun.
Dean graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1980 and received his commission in the United States Navy. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1991 with an MS in Aviation Systems. He graduated from the United States Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOP GUN) in 1985, and in 1988 he received Strike Aircraft Test Directorate's Flight Test Officer of the Year at the United States Naval Test Pilot School.
Dean retired with the rank of Commander from the U.S. Navy in 2001 following 21 1/2 years of distinguished service. Following retirement from the Navy, Dean attended medical school at Nova Southeastern University in Florida and graduated in 2005 with the degree of Doctor of Osteopathy. Dean completed a General Surgery Residency at Henry Ford Wynadotte Hospital in Michigan and Hand Surgery Fellowship at the University at Buffalo in New York.
Dean moved to Georgia and started his practice of Hand Surgery in 2011 at Northside Hospital in Cumming, GA. In 2015, he moved his practice to Blue Ridge, where he served the community of Blue Ridge as "the local hand doctor." He will be remembered for his kindness, compassion, and care that he showed his patients.
Dean was a faithful man of God and attended Calvary Chapel of Blue Ridge. He taught Men's Bible study and played drums on the praise team. His love for the Lord, his family, his friends, and his country was evident in the way he lived his life. Dean will be remembered for the love, integrity, humility, faithfulness, gentleness, and kindness that he showed to everyone he met.
A memorial service to celebrate Dean's life was held on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 1:00 PM from Calvary Chapel of Blue Ridge. Pastor Daniel Postell officiated. Music was provided by the Calvary Chapel Praise Team. Military honors were rendered by the Marine Corps League. Visitation was held at Akins-Cobb Funerals & Cremations of Blue Ridge on Friday, October 2, 2026 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial contribution be made to the Calvary Chapel Blue Ridge Christian School Scholarship Fund.
