Obituary

Mr. Dean Olin Shields, age 73, of Mineral Bluff, GA passed away Sunday, December 25, 2011 in the Fannin Regional Hospital in Blue Ridge, GA. Mr. Shields was born on November 1, 1938 in Culberson, North Carolina to the late James Olin Shields and Elsie Viola Stiles Shields. He retired from Thomas Concrete where he worked as a diesel mechanic. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Ranger, NC. Mr. Shields was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Jean Truelove Shields; a son, Timothy Mark Shields; a daughter, Cynthia Clore; and a sister, Rachael Shields. Mr. Shields is survived by a son, Gregory Dean Shields of Mineral Bluff; daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberley and Chip Panter of Canton, GA, Karen and John Hawkins of Ballground, GA, and Constance and Joe Armstrong of Lawrenceville, GA; brothers, Max Shields of Culberson, NC, Bill Shields of Mineral Bluff, and Lynn Shields of Culberson; sisters, Frances Franks of Culberson, Mary Webb of Jefferson, GA, Martha Ellis of Marion, NC, and Bonnie VanTassel of Tallahassee, FL; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Paul Ray Morgan and Rev. Raymond Shields officiating. Music will be by the A.C. Caylor Family. Pallbearers will be John Hawkins, Chip Panter, Ryan Friel, Daniel Shields, Mitchell Shields, and Scott Shields. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Clore and Joseph Armstrong III. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery in Ranger, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
