Obituary

Mr. David Walker McMahon, Jr., better known as "D.W." McMahon, age 92, of Lawrenceville, GA, formerly of Blue Ridge, passed away on March 10, 2014. Born in Cohutta, GA, he was the son of the late David Walker and Onie Deverell McMahon. He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He worked as an Equipment Engineer for many years at Western Electric. He was also a long time parishioner of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Mr. McMahon was also preceded in death by a sister, Pauline King Hardin. Mr. McMahon had a passion for gardening all of his life. He also enjoyed square dancing which is how he met his wife Helen. He loved spending time with his family and was very active in his Catholic Faith. Mr. McMahon volunteered for many years for a variety of organizations including Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, and St. Vincent de Paul. He was volunteer groundskeeper and maintenance man for years at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Helen Pieczatkiewicz McMahon of Lawrenceville, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Juli McMahon of Mableton, GA; daughters and son-in-laws, Cathy and Tom Riddick of Lawrenceville, GA, Diane and the late Mark Rice of Lilburn, GA, and Linda McMahon and husband David Owen of Lilburn, GA; grandchildren, Leslie (and husband Chris) Knuycky, Brittany Riddick, Olivia Rice, Frances Rice, Henry McMahon-Owen and Walker Owen; one great grandson, Jackson Knuycky; brother and sister-in-laws, Ralph and Daisy McMahon of Cleveland, TN, Harold and Martha McMahon and Carl and Nita McMahon all of Dalton, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Gordon Ownby of Cohutta, GA; special friends, Connie Waldrop Dennis of Alpharetta, GA and Robert Chivington of Port Wentworth, GA. Funeral Mass was conducted on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. from the St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Father John Conway officiating. Music was provided by Ruth McCart, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Crock, Jr. Serving as pallbearers were Paul McMahon, Tom Riddick, David Owen, Chris Knuycky, Henry McMahon-Owen and Walker Owen. Interment will follow at a later date in the Georgia National Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Navy. A Vigil Service was Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary Service. For those desiring Memorial Contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity at 4187 E.
