David Hilburn Long, age 86 of Morganton passed away on Friday, April 18, 2025 at his home. He was born on April 14, 1939 in Ellijay to the late Eugene Clifford Long and Esmer Ruth Ralston Long. David served as a deacon and was a faithful Baptist who loved and served the Lord. He had always strived to do right and be a blessing to others. He was pleasantly natured and loved to laugh with family and friends. In his earlier years he worked as a Barber and he worked for Ford Motor Company in Hapeville for ten years. Later he became a Forest Ranger and retired after twenty-six years from the Georgia Forestry Commission. David had farmed raising crops and cattle, began to raise poultry in 1990, becoming one of the largest poultry farmers in Fannin County, GA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Teresa Ann Long, and brothers, Edwin Long and Larry Long.

Survivors are his wife of sixty-six years, Doris Campbell Long of Morganton; children, Rebecca Elizabeth Davenport of Morganton, Billy David Long (Roxie) of Morganton, Wesley Dale Long of Morganton, Jason Jeffery Long of Morganton, and Brian Keith Long; grandchildren, John Davenport (Suzanne), Paul Davenport (Cadi), David Long (Jessica), Kimberly (Drew) Deaver, Tiara (Britton) Kennedy, Lacey Long, Weston Long, Tucker Long, Travis Long and Cassandra Long; great-grandchildren, Levi Davenport, Callie Davenport, Corrie Davenport, Lyra Davenport, Laiken Davenport, Ren Davenport, Sage Davenport, Rory Davenport, Hudson Long, Halle Long, Gunner Deaver, Paisley Deaver, Alianna Kennedy, Colt Kennedy, Maezie Jean Kennedy, Freya Long, and Asmund Long; siblings, Dan Long, Ernest Long (Patricia), Charlotte Anderson, Ramona (Pete) Jones, Loretta (Roger) Owensby, and Sharon Long; and sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Campbell.

Funeral Services were conducted on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Ritter and Rev. Jeff Fair officiating. Music was provided by David Anderson and Charlotte Anderson. Interment followed in the Hemptown Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Davenport, Paul Davenport, David Long, Drew Deaver, Travis Long, and Gary Long. Honorary Pallbearers were Steve Campbell, Joel Jordan, Joe Long, Michael Long, James Jones, Philip Owensby, Charles Dillingham, and Lanier Jordan. The family visited with friends at the funeral home on Monday evening, April 21, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
