IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David Glenn
Hughes
September 2, 1945 – September 15, 2024
It is with profound sadness that the family announce the passing of David Glenn Hughes, age 79 from Mineral Bluff, GA. on 9/15/2024. David was a beloved husband, father, Granddaddy, and Great Grandaddy.
David was born Sept 2, 1945 in Maryville, TN, yet spent most of his childhood growing up in Decatur, GA. Upon marriage to Billie Earle Goss, David moved to Fannin County and spent his years working in the Copper mines at Tennessee Chemical Company until its closure. David had 4 children and was very active in their extracurricular activities at school and could always be found running a concession stand during basketball and football games, coaching little league, or spending time watching his children's various sports activities. After his children were grown, you could find David taking the grandchildren to the lake, on a picnic, to the circus or Dollywood. David was loved by everyone who met him, and was well known for his talented woodworking, immense humor, wisdom, love for bright colors, and flowers, but more so, for his Black Friday shopping shenanigans with his family to include walkie talkies and each family member being assigned a reindeer name. David loved Christmas and made special memories for his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren by giving each a unique Santa hat, shirt or accessories for picture taking fun and was the ring leader in establishing "Christmas magic" for the little ones.
David is proceeded in death by his parents, Thelma (Walter) Hughes, father, Luther Hamilton and sister, Nancy Hughes Fountain.
David is survived by his wife of 60 years, Billie Earle Goss Hughes of Mineral Bluff, GA; Son, Mike Hughes of Mineral Bluff, GA; Daughter Kathy (Bill) Hughes Smith of Athens, TN; Melissa (Junior) Hughes Coffman of Odenville, Al; John (Teri) Hughes of Irwinville, GA. Grandchildren Zack Branham of Knoxville, TN; Hannah (Micheal) Coffman Berk of Dallas, GA; Colby (Hannah) Branham of Cleveland, TN; Emilee (Chase) Coffman Lee of Hayden, AL and Katie Hughes of Irwinville, GA. His pride and joys, great granddaughters, Bristol Berk, Lily Branham, Gracie Berk and Magnolia Branham. David is also survived by his brothers, Jeff Hughes, Michael Hughes, nephews, Lester (Missy) Darnell, Daniel Darnell, Alan Hughes and Jonathan Hughes. Special friends, that he considered daughters, Judy Sparks Thomas, and Cassandra Simms. Many beloved cousins and close friends also survive.
