Obituary
Mr. Dale H. Dyer, age 101, of Blue Ridge went to be with the Lord Saturday afternoon October 23, 2021. Dale was born in Clearwater, Kansas to the late William Hamlin "Ham" and Anna Dyer. After completing 4 years at Kansas State at Manhattan, KS, he joined the Army Air Corps during WW II and eventually piloted B-24 heavy bombers on raids over Germany. Upon returning to the States, he married local girl Virginia Hampton and settled in Blue Ridge, where he managed a farm implement dealership until 1965; from then until retirement, he was a real estate broker. Dale wrote stories for the News Observer about his experiences and travels for over 20 years. He was active in the First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge as a deacon and the Blue Ridge Kiwanis Club for 75 years.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia Hampton Dyer; one daughter, Janyce Lynn Plemmons; and siblings, Audrey Dyer, Quinton Dyer, Evelyn Reusser, Wendell Dyer and Helen Dyer.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Larry and Deborah Dyer of Morganton, GA, Cindy Kay Dyer Wheeler and husband James of Flanders, NJ and Eric Dale and Teresa Dyer of Jasper, GA; grandchildren, Annah Dodge, Dotti and husband Lance Hubbard, Dawn Griffith and husband Brandon, Dara Dyer, Chris and wife Deborah Brown, David James Wheeler, Sara Ashley Wheeler, Marcus Hamlin Dyer and Jalyn Denise Dyer; great grandchildren, Cody Dodge, Jake Dodge, Hannah Hubbard, Joshua and Anna Brown, and Ira Griffith; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and host of friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. from the Blue Ridge First Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Richardson officiating. Mr. Dyer will lie in state at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour. Interment will follow in the Chastain Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as honorary pallbearers: Marcus Dyer, Chris Brown, Lance Hubbard, Brandon Griffith, Ben Dunn, David Wheeler, Cody Dodge and Jake Dodge. The following gentlemen and groups were selected to serve as an honorary escort: Dr. Howard Tilley, Steve Bailey, Bill Huff, Bill Prather, Greg Hampton, Kendall Hampton, Rick Young, Deacons of Blue Ridge First Baptist Church and the active group of Fannin County Heritage Foundation.
