Obituary

Mrs. Cora Magalene Davenport Jones, age 93, of Epworth, GA, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at her home. Mrs. Jones was born in Murray County, GA on April 30, 1915 and was the daughter of the late William I. and Radie Patterson Davenport. She was a hard working homemaker, devoted mother who raised six children with no utilities, an avid gardener and loved her flowers. Mrs. Jones was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church at Jacks River. She was preceded in death by her husband of over seventy-four years John Wesley Jones; one grandson, David Anthony Jones; great grandson, James Lee Jones and daughter-in-law, Reba Jones. Since the death of her husband, Cora has faithfully watched for Wesley to come home. Her faithful watch for her husband brings to mind scriptures in Mark Chapter 13, verses 34-37. We should all watch and anxiously await for the coming of Christ just as Cora watched and waited for her husband. Mrs. Jones was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor. Her home was always open for family, loved ones and friends; it did not matter if you came unannounced; she always wanted to prepare you a meal. She was the epitome of the woman described in Proverbs 31, verses 10-31. She will be greatly missed as a mother, grandmother, friend, and neighbor. Now she is at rest in Heaven with loved ones and Christ. Survivors include her son, James Jones of McCaysville, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Shirley Jones of Epworth, GA and Herdis and Sue Jones of Epworth, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Gladys and Orlin Bell of Blue Ridge, GA, Myrtle and L.H. Hallum of Scottsmoor, FL and Ida and James Roy Watkins of Epworth, GA; eight grandsons; three granddaughters; eight great grandsons; six great granddaughters; three great-great grandsons and two great-great granddaughters. Funeral services were Sunday, October 12, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Glen Collis and Rev. Delmar Davenport officiating. Music was by Brenda Millsaps. Pallbearers were Bradley Watkins, Roger Jones, Phil Jones, Bryan Hallum, Leslie Hallum and Herdis Jones. Honorary pallbearers were Richard Jones, James Jones and Orlin Bell. Interment followed in the Jones Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the Jones Family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com. Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge was in charge of the arrangements.
