Mr. Clay W. Garland, age 77, of Blue Ridge, GA passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2012 in the Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Mr. Garland was born on September 12, 1934 in Fannin County, GA to the late Elisha Garland and Lillie Long Garland. He retired from the Fannin County Road Deparment where he was road superintendent for 18 years. He was a member and deacon of McCaysville Gospel Tabernacle. Mr. Garland was a United States Army veteran. He is survived by his wife Mattie Garland of Blue Ridge; son, Doyle Garland of Atlanta, GA; brother, Lee Garland of Indiana and Arthur Garland of Blue Ridge; sister, Bertha Foster and Ellen Martin, both of Blue Ridge. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Scott Baugh and Rev. Marvin Poole officiating. Music was by the McCaysville Gospel Tabernacle Choir. Pallbearers were Benny Messer, Leonard Hunter, Scott Searcy, Larry Nicholson, Barry Harris, and Kenny Queen. Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Queen, Robbie Russell, and Benny Ensley. Interment followed in Ensley Family Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
