Clarence James Mashburn, affectionately known as "Cotton," age 81, of Farner, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 in Athens, TN. He was born in the Liberty Community of Cherokee County, NC on January 25, 1940 to the late Pearly Jackson Mashburn and Dora Lou Allen Mashburn. Cotton was a loving father and grandfather. He was an avid outdoorsman that loved hunting, fishing, dredging for gold, and hunting ginseng. He was a humble, down to earth man that had a giving heart. He is preceded in death by his parents; his children, Teresa May Mashburn and Gerald Matthew Mashburn; brothers, Alvin Mashburn and Ulyss "U.P." Mashburn; and twin sister, Olemae Mashburn. Cotton is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Collins Maxwell of Athens, TN; grandchildren, Brett Matthew Mashburn, Nicolas Ray (Courtney) Maxwell, and Andrea Renee Ricker; great-grandchildren, Drake Mashburn, Lucius Mashburn, Zoey Mashburn, Axel Maxwell, Michael Maxwell, Hunter Brown, Ely Brown, and Tuff Ricker; brothers, Douglas (Minnie) Mashburn and Chrystephor Gary "Harry" Mashburn; and sister, Margaret Mashburn Farner; much loved friend, Bill Newman; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 3:00 PM from the Liberty Community Cemetery with Rev. Mitchell Allen officiating.
