Mr. Charles Herdis Phillips, age 87, of Stonehenge Assisted Living Center, Blairsville, GA passed away Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Stonehenge. Mr. Phillips was born in Fannin County, GA on February 4, 1923 to the late Nathan Phillips and Birdie McCabee Phillips. He was a member of Calvary Church. Mr. Phillips worked as a machinist for Tennessee Chemical Company and was a World War II combat veteran, serving in the United States Navy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Christina Scroggs Phillips. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Melinda Phillips of Blue Ridge and Chuck and Beth Phillips of Boca Raton, FL; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Max Fuqua of Grayson, GA and Laura and the late David Stiles of Birmingham, AL; brothers, Bob Phillips and Joe Phillips both of Ducktown, TN; sister, Peggy Goode of Ducktown, TN; eight grandchildren; and his Stonehenge Family. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, May 9, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. John Kilpatrick officiating. Music was by Kerrie Touchstone and Krystie Daves. Pallbearers were Caleb Phillips, Max Fuqua Jr., Matthew Phillips, Zachary Phillips, David Stiles, Jr. and Spencer Stiles. Honorary pallbearers were Carrie Phillips and Emily Fuqua. Interment followed in Copper Ridge Memory Garden with full military honors by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
