Charles Ray Odom, age 81, of Blue Ridge passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022. He was born on September 9, 1940 in Morganton, GA. Ray attended Oak Grove Baptist Church. He retired as a Sgt. 1st Class from the United States Army after serving twenty-five years and eight months. Ray served in the Iraq War and Desert Storm. He owned and operated a trucking company, worked at Tennessee Chemical Company and at Blue Ridge Supply. Ray enjoyed his grandchildren, golfing and hanging out at the Village Restaurant. He was preceded in death by his parents, James H. Odom and Mae Jane Dean Odom; wife, Rachel A. Henson and brother, Don Odom. Survivors are children, Michael Odom (Diana) of Mineral Bluff, Paula Holt (Raymond) of Ellijay and Nick Coleman of Blue Ridge; grandchildren, Brittany Odom Darsey (Brad) of McCaysville, Haley Odom of Mineral Bluff and Martin Coleman of Talking Rock and five great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Funerals and Cremations of Blue Ridge Chapel with the Rev. Randy Hooper officiating. Music will be by the DixieAires. Military Honors will be provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Interment will follow in the New Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mark Huff, Charlie Couch, Tommy Henson, Barry Dean, Robert Odom and Danny McFarland. Honorary Pallbearers will be Hugh McClure, Larry Green and Lenny Green. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, May 10, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
