Charles Ray Nelson, age 76, of Ducktown passed away Friday, June 9, 2017. Charles Ray was a native of the Copper Basin area and was the son of the late Agustus "Gus" and Dovie Carver Nelson. He was a member of the Ducktown United Methodist Church, and was a Veteran of the US Army achieving the rank of E3 during Vietnam. He worked for many years for the Tennessee Chemical Company. Mr. Nelson was an avid Fly fisherman, car collector, a TN Vols Fan and the former owner of The 64 Package Store. He was also predeceased in death by sister, Mildred Nelson.
He is survived by daughters, Susan Ballew of McCaysville, GA, Dee Dee (Chris) Chastain of Blue Ridge, GA; siblings, Bazelle (Elsie) Nelson and Gene (Denise) Nelson; mother of his children, Ann Acuff of Ducktown, TN; grandchildren, Dakota Ballew and Alex Chastain.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 12, 2017 at 6:30 P.M. from the Akins of Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Dr. Tom Jordan officiating. Music was by David Anderson, Sherry and Lacey Walden. Interment will follow later in the Zion Hill Baptist Church cemetery with full military honors conducted by the North Georgia Honor Guard.
