Obituary

The Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill announces funeral services for Mr. Charles Melvin Earlywine, age 87, of Turtletown, TN, who passed away Saturday, June 13, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Earlywine was born on March 7, 1922 in Majorsville, WV to the late Melvin and Hattie Ingram Earlywine. He was a member of the Farner Presbyterian Church and past Master of the Ducktown Lodge #241, a member of Scottish Rite 32 degree and a member of the Shrines. He was preceded in death by two wives, Louise Boardley and Bunzie Earlywine. Charles M. Earlywine, Senior Master Sergeant, F Co., 27th Inf. joined the army January 7, 1941 and was stationed at Schofield Barracks, Hi. From 1950 until 1966 he served in the United States Air Force. He was also stationed at Guadacanal, Philippine Islands, Solomon Islands, New Zealand, Japan and Hawaii. His most memorable experience occurred December 7, 1941 when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. He was stationed at Schofield Barracks, HI. It was a horrible day and the beginning of World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, Phillipine Liberation, Asiatic-Pacific, Good Conduct with five Bronze Stars, two Air Force Commendations, American Defense, World War II Victory and the American Theater. Mr. Earlywine was a member of Air Force Sergeant Association, American Legion and the Pearl Harbor's Survivors' Association. He is survived by his wife, Margaret O. Earlywine; sons and daughter-in-laws, Charles M. Earlywine, Jr. and Judy of Joffree. PA, David A. Earlywine and Sue of Monogahela, PA and John M. Earlywine and Bridgett of Clarksville, TN; stepchildren, Carol Jean Smith of Murphy, NC, Barbara Edwards and Steve of Cumming, GA, Glenn Smith of Maryville, TN; half sister and husband, Helen and Don Heller of Leeper, PA; grandchildren, Charles M. Earlywine III, Shelly Hutchison, David Earlywine, II, Kimberly Nicholas, Crystal Hill, John M. Earlywine, Jr. and Kimberly McNeal; great grandchildren, Selina, Anthony, Ashley, Alayna, Aniah, Alysson, Alyssa and Derrick Earlywine, Kibey and Brittney Nicholas, Brian Plants and Amanda Masi; step grandchildren, Joseph Barron, Justin Smith, Alexa and Camden Edwards and Kiera Reagan. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. from the Farner Presbyterian Church with Dr. Gary Aven officiating. Music will be by Janice Reid. Pallbearers will be Brian Plants, Scott Blanchard, Terry Blanchard, James Blanchard, Dwight Blanchard, Justin Smith, John Earlywine, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Ducktown Masonic Lodge # 241. Interment will follow in the Zion Hill Cemetery with full military honors by the North Georgia Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital, 1900 Richmond Road, Lexington, KY 40502.
