Obituary

Charles Leland Burger, age 89, of Copperhill passed away at his home on Sunday, July 4, 2021. Charles was born on October 12, 1931 in Copperhill to the late Elmer Charles Burger and Grace Reba Johnson Burger. He served his country as a member of the United States Army. After returning from his service, Charles worked for Hill Casket Company in Chicago, Illinois. After returning to the Copper Basin area, he worked for the Tennessee Copper Company, and later, he worked at Collis Feed and Seed for 10 years. He was active in his faith at Bethlehem Baptist Church serving as a deacon, secretary, treasure, and playing the guitar. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Joyce Trantham and Joanna Gmeiner. Charles is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Mary Catherine Burger of the home; children, Ronald (Reba) Burger of Marietta, GA, and Marty (Terri) Burger of McCaysville, GA; grandchildren, Eric Burger, Joel (Kimberly) Burger, Mark Burger and family, and Jordan (Whitney) Burger; great-grandchildren, Liam Burger, LilaKate Burger, and Max Burger; and sister, Jean Kennedy of Copperhill. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Jeremiah Jack and Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. Music will be provided by Champ Prince. A family graveside service will take place on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. from the Zion Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. The following gentlemen will be serving as pallbearers, Marty Burger, Joel Burger, Jordan Burger, Levi Roberts, Randy Johnson, and James Whitener. The family has requested the following gentlemen to serve as honorary pallbearers, Champ Prince, Reece Johnson, Noel Kennedy, Eric Burger, Mark Burger, Larry Collis, David Trantham, and Tim Trantham. The family will visit with friends at the funeral home on Wednesday prior to the service from 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. Flowers will be accepted for the service, however, if you would like to make a memorial contribution, the family has requested those to be made to the Bethlehem Baptist Church Mission Fund.
