Mr. Carmon Clay Payne, age 81, of Blue Ridge, passed away Friday, October 26th, 2007. He was a native and lifelong resident of Fannin County, son of the late William Henry Payne and Martha Amelia Hyde Payne. Mr. Payne was retired from General Motors Corp. He was a member of the Mt. Liberty Baptist Church and attended the Shady Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son; Scott Henry Payne and a daughter; Jimmie Nell Duvall.He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Wimberley) Payne of the home; three daughters, Patricia (Payne) Steele of Bushnell, FL, Darlene (Payne) Stover of McCaysville, GA, Denise (Payne) Burk of McCaysville, GA; three sons, Darrell Payne and Danny Payne both of McCaysville, GA, and Derrick Payne of Copperhill, TN; one sister, Elener Lowery of Ellijay, GA; two brothers, Marshall Payne of Dalton, GA, and Carlton Payne of Chatsworth, GA; sixteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at the Akins funeral home Chapel at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 31st, with Rev. Ed O'neal and Rev. Melvin O'neal officiating. Interment followed in the Mobile Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were David Chapman, David Craig, Jerry Johns, Ronald Payne, Jeff Payne, and Roger Lowery.
