Carmi Underwood Wood, age 86, of Blue Ridge, GA passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024 at her home. She was born on September 15, 1937, in Ducktown, TN, to the late William C. Underwood, Sr. and Bernice Sprayberry Underwood. She earned her Bachelor's degree from North Georgia College and her Master's degree from the University of Georgia. She began working as a caseworker for Georgia Department of Families and Children. While working for the state Division of Mental Health and Developmental Disorders, she served as Chair of the regional MHDD board. She served as Executive Director for the non-profit VTI in Ellijay, during which she was appointed the first Chair of the Georgia State Use Commission. Carmi was instrumental in the implementation of the Fannin Christian Learning Center and served as an officer on the board as well. She was a founding board Chair for the Mineral Springs Center. She was also a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge, where she served in numerous leadership roles.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Eugene Wood.

Carmi is survived by her children and their spouses, Kenneth, Jr. "Chuck" and Kim Wood of Bowdon, GA and Denise Wood Lanier and J. Blake Lanier of Carrollton, GA; grandchildren, Danielle Lanier, Melissa Lanier, Cody Wood, Nichole Bott and Samantha Carroll; great grandchildren, Savannah Scott, Chelsea Wilson, Robert Wilson, Addi Bott; sister, Anne Fleeman of Blue Ridge, GA; brother-in-law, Wayman Wood of Nashville, GA; sisters-in-law, Mildred Clonts of Temple, GA and Jeanne Herbert of Loganville, GA.

A funeral service was held on Friday, September 6, 2024 at 11:00 AM from First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge with Pastor Rusty Thomas officiating. Music was provided by Brian Huffman and Pat Young. Interment followed in the Copper Ridge Memory Gardens. Pallbearers were  Mike Fleeman, Kevin Brown, Jonathan Crumly, Russ Underwood, John McClure, Isaac McClure, and David Meeks. Visitation was held on Thursday Evening, at the funeral home, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
