Carla Jean Shumaker, age 51, of Manvel, Texas, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 19, 2026, in Houston, Texas.
She was born on January 31, 1975, in Copperhill, Tennessee, Carla was a gifted hairdresser who devoted 27 years to owning and operating her beloved salon, Hair Gallery. Through her work, she touched countless lives, offering not only her skill but also her warmth and kindness.
A devoted mother of five and a devout Christian, Carla lived her life as a ministry to others. She shared her faith openly, uplifting everyone she encountered-even in the face of her own illness. With unwavering courage and deep trust in God, she faced her final days with grace and strength.
Carla will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Carla married Daniel Shumaker in 2007, and together, raised five children; Danielle Shumaker, Guage Shumaker, Cydney Hemphill (Kanon), Easton Shumaker, and Mary Kyla Shumaker; she is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Honey Hemphill, Daxton Parrott, Deaton Parrott, and one on the way, Hart Hemphill; her loving mother, Elizabeth Burgess; her loving father, Carl Self; and siblings, Sandy Reid (Mike) and Tammy Gibbs; many extended relatives, and dear friends.
Funeral services to honor Carla's life were held on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Danny Rhodes, Rev. Chris Taylor, and Apostle Tomi Arayomi officiating. Music was by Ryan Wilson and Tracy Housley. Interment followed in the Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Guage Shumaker, Caleb Bragg, Kanon Hemphill, Easton Shumaker, Marshall Collins, and Caden Reid. The family visited with friends at the Akins-Cobb Funerals & Cremations of Blue Ridge, GA on Saturday, May 2, 2026, prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
