Calvin Newman, age 86, of Farner, TN passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Copper Basin Medical Center. Calvin was born in Cherokee County, NC and was a son of the late Willis Fulton and Charlotte Gibson Newman. He was retired from the Cities Service Company where he worked as a miner. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy. Mr. Newman was a long time member of the New Zion Baptist Church in Farner, TN. He was a well known and loved individual of this community. Calvin was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Raper Newman and one son, Brian Newman.He is survived by children, Sandy (Calvin) Jack of Farner, TN, Rhonda "Trooper" (Bob ) Burns of Blue Ridge, GA, Jerrie (Roger ) Brannon of Lenoir City, TN, Jody (Mandy) Newman of Carrollton, GA, Billy Dean Newman of Farner, TN, and David (Jennifer) Newman of Farner, TN; grandchildren, Jeremiah (Amanda) Jack, Amy Jack Helton, Andy (Beth) Whitener, Amanda (Chad) Reece, Melanie (Jason) Faddis, Mistie (Benny) Goley, Buddy (Lisa) Newman, Bobby Newman, Brandon (Kayla) Newman, Cody Chinell, "Sissy" Laura Chinell, Hunter, Rachel and Matthew Newman; twenty one great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Jo Payne of Farner, TN, Hattie Lois Maney of SC, Betty Adams of Farner, TN and Barbara Lewis of Atlanta, GA; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. from New Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Raymond Akins and Rev. Keith Raper officiating. Music will be by Steve and Patricia Adams. Pallbearers will be Tommy Adams, Steve Adams, Timmy Payne, Dale Payne, L.D. Payne, Gary Payne, Sydney Jory, and Paul Adams. Honorary Pallbearers will be L.C. Newman, Fred Marr and Tyler Jory. Interment will follow in the New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
