Brent Laney, age 37, of Copperhill, TN passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2017. Brent was a member of the East Polk Fire & Rescue where he served as a Firefighter, Engineer and Secretary for a number of years. He was also a member of the Fannin, Peachtree, Wolf Creek and Hiawassee Dam Volunteer Fire Departments. Survivors include his wife Wendy King Laney; son, Reece Campbell; mother and step-father, Sherry and Dennis Burrell; brothers, David Laney, Darrell Laney and Steve Laney; sister, Melissa Monkus; fathers-in-law and mother-in-law, Mike and Nancy Worley and Doug King; nieces and nephews, Paige Monkus, Cheyenne Monkus, Traven Monkus, Toby Foerst, Christin Foerst and many other cousins and friends. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Collis officiating. Interment will follow in the Bellview United Methodist Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Chris Monkus, Mikey Worley, Ronald Ware, Ken Wooten, Paul Dubois and George Watson. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the East Polk, Peachtree, Wolf Creek and Hiawassee Fire and Rescue and the Union County Dialysis. A Fireman's Last Call will be provided by the East Polk Fire and Rescue. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5-9 p.m. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to help defray final expenses.
