Beverly Jean Payne, age 50, of Old Fort, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2026. She was born in Copperhill on January 13, 1976. She is preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Ann Mealer Johnson; father, Carl Payne; and husband, Jimmy Waters.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Waters; step-father, Steve Johnson; half-brother, Jason Payne; and cousins, Jeannette Jordan, Joe Bice, and Carl Ritchie; as well as a host of other family and friends.

A funeral service was held on Sunday, September 27, 2026 at 4:00 PM from the Grassy Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Brandon Stiles and Rev. Billy Waters officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Jason Payne, Kade Jordan, Devin Witherow, Elijah Witherow, and Sammy Jones serving as pallbearers. The family visited with friends at Grassy Creek Baptist Church on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 PM until the funeral hour of 4:00 PM.
